Raymond Chandler

The South Bank Show is a television arts magazine show produced by ITV between 1978 and 2010. A new series began on Sky Arts from 27 May 2012. Presented by Melvyn Bragg, the show aims to bring both high art and popular culture to a mass audience.

An insurance representative is seduced by a dissatisfied housewife into a scheme of insurance fraud and murder that arouses the suspicion of his colleague, a claims investigator.

A portrait of Raymond Chandler, creator of the Philip Marlowe mystery thrillers, by John Foster and Fred Burnley. The film portrays Chandler's life and creative attitudes in his own words. Dramatised excerpts from his letters and novels reveal conflicting aspects: the sensitive, diffident writer - and the tough, cool private eye hero. With JB Priestley.
